TractorsEvolution to Revolution: The New John Deere 6R Large and Extra-Large Frame

Built around the contractor and the driver, the next-generation John Deere 6R tractors are turning road time into a competitive advantage.

For the model year 2027, John Deere has reimagined the larger models of the 6R Series tractors. Strengths which earned the range’s reputation all remain; relentless pulling performance, fuel efficiency, reliability, low total cost of ownership and leading cab comfort. But everything around the driver has been reconsidered, transforming a proven workhorse into a real driver’s tractor. The promise is simple: Made to move.

A clear line-up for every job

The new models are built on two frames. The Large Frame (2,800mm wheelbase and approx. 8,900kg shipping weight) comprises the 6R 180, 6R 200, 6R 220 and 6R 240 models, delivering 180-240hp rated power and 249-291hp with Intelligent Power Management (IPM). The Extra-Large Frame (2,900mm wheelbase and approx. 9,850kg) carries the 6R 230 and the flagship 6R 260, reaching up to 281 and 305hp with IPM respectively. The result is an outstanding power-to-weight balance across the entire family, which means high horsepower in a comparatively light, agile package.

Focused on contractors and their drivers

6R Tractors

John Deere 6R Tractors deliver the ideal mix of performance, versatility, and comfort.

Behind the new design sits one clear ambition: Outstanding road-performance and comfort, every kilometre, every day. That goal is aimed squarely at contractors and their drivers, who spend a large share of their working day travelling between farms and hauling loads on the road, making the tractor’s road behavior a decisive factor for productivity and cost efficiency. Moving from a head-to-head road experience against the established benchmark to a clearly superior one was central to the brief.
Power-dense, versatile and agile, that focus comes to life most directly in the slightly smaller Large Frame machines, especially the 6R 240 and 6R 220 models.

These models have been tailored to the contractor’s daily reality of fully loaded transport: On the road one moment and demanding combined-load work with hydraulic- or PTO-driven implements the next. The showcase is the 6R 240 , which at roughly 8,900kg and up to 291hp with IPM achieves an exceptional power density of just 30.5kg/hp. It features a tight 5.6m turning radius (600/65R30 tyres, 2,050mm track), up to 210 litres/min hydraulic flow, six independent rear and two independent front selective control valves (SCVs) plus available Power Beyond. It even adopts the series turbo charger from the Extra-Large Frame for genuine high-end response and powerful acceleration, whether empty or fully loaded.

The development of the new 6R tractors placed a strong focus on the needs of contractors and operators.

Road performance engineered as a system

Excellent road performance is not one feature but the precise interaction of many, bundled into the new Sport Package Pro.

Triple link pro front-axle suspension introduces an industry-unique adaptive and adjustable suspension-and-damping system that responds continuously to speed, load and ground conditions. Suspension and damping are tuned to the mass and geometry of each frame size, with components (from sports-car specialist Koni) keeping the tractor calm and precisely on track at higher transport speeds. The goal: An equally comfortable ride experience, irrespective of ground conditions.

The Sports Package Pro brings together a complete set of technical solutions that are precisely co-ordinated, enabling comfortable and fast road travel and efficient working days.

Hydraulic 2.0 cab suspension adds low-friction cylinders, a wider-range controller, a new cab bridge and bearings, and a redesigned Panhard rod for better isolation, faster reaction and quieter operation.

New pedals and braking bring automotive ergonomics: A flatter pedal layout operated heel-on-the-ground, plus a displacement-based brake system with valves relocated outside the cab for finely modulated, jerk-free deceleration.

Reactive Steering gives car-like handling with a return-to-centre function for relaxed, precise line-holding at speed and effortless cornering. Variable Ratio Steering, wider rims, a 33cm wheel, a new steering column and five-step seat damping round out the package.

Cab comfort taken further

Half the operator experience happens inside the cab, and the new CommandView 4 Versatility Cab raises the bar. Forward-sloping C-pillars, a curved rear window and a wider, lower cut-out deliver up to 20% better visibility of rear implements. A slimmer steering column and pedals moved 10cm forward free up legroom for a more natural posture, complemented by three new footrests and a 163cm-wide cab with more passenger space and a larger instructor seat.

At the top of the seating range, the new Vision Seat offers electric seat and CommandARM adjustment, pneumatic lumbar support, heating, ventilation, neck ventilation and an integrated massage function. The next-generation CommandARM pairs a familiar layout with two joystick choices; the CommandX Plus for straightforward operation, and CommandX Pro for expert-level control. Both come with phone and infotainment control, G5Plus display navigation and extended precision ag functions.

In the spacious 6R cab, all controls and displays are ergonomically arranged. Numerous details level up every driver experience.

Detail refinements are everywhere: NHine-mode ambient lighting, a touchscreen radio with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6.1 sound system with Harman Kardon subwoofer, a compressor-cooled fridge – 70% larger than before – and a benchmark cab noise level of just 66dB(A) thanks to dozens of acoustic improvements. Thoughtful touches make daily operations effortless, including display boot-up on door opening, labelled control assignments, automatic trailer-steer axle lock when reversing, electrically adjustable Power Beyond and an integrated Cat. IV cabin air filter.

Tailored tools for the contractor

Two further updates underline the focus on contractors. The new 6X5R Series loaders (665R and 685R), developed exclusively for the new 6R, bring a durability-focused design, improved visibility and ergonomics, and modular Tech Pack upgradeability. The fully integrated single-line central tyre inflation system sets a class-leading pace: 700 litres/min air delivery inflates or deflates by one bar in about four and a half minutes (compared to more than eight minutes on the competitor benchmark), meaning drivers can move constantly between barn and field without pressure compromises.

Taken together, the new 6R Large and Extra-Large Frame models turn time on the road into a well spent time. For contractors and the drivers who put in the hours, efficiency becomes a genuine competitive advantage.

With precision farming features like AutoPath™ Boundaries, satellite map view, seamless data connectivity, fleet co-ordination, and fast job reports in the Operations Centre, the 6R helps contractors to maximise billable efficiency and transparency.
